Bill Kershner, Director of CSF for 20 years and serving in ministry for 30 years

Bill Kershner, Director of Recruitment @ New International
Director of CSF for 23 years

When I think about serving at CSF for 23 years a lot of emotion wells up inside of me. The Great Commission has been lived out on campus for 55 years, and I have been blessed to be a part of what God is doing.

CSF has played a role in so many college student’s lives where discipleship, baptisms, and teaching has been a part of their college experience. Not only have the CSF students received a college education, but they also participated in opportunities of Spiritual Formation.

My firstborn will be attending IU this fall! Campus ministry continues to be vital for those who are looking to pursue their faith in college. Christian Student Fellowship has been a home for students wanting a faith community for 55 years.

This ministry has been blessed by the generosity of many over the years, which has allowed CSF to be unique in having a physical presence on campus. Offering housing and staff to be a presence for students is a game changer for the college experience. I look forward to seeing what the next 20 years will bring, and how this ministry will grow!

Ben Guiger, Lead Campus Minister at CSF

My name is Ben Geiger and I am extremely humbled and excited about becoming the new Lead Campus Minister at CSF. Outside of my relationship with Christ, the most important part of my life is my family. This August marked 14 years of marriage with my amazing wife, Angie. Together we have three wonderful kids: Brennan (12), Paxton (10), and Brooklyn (8). We’re really trying to be present during this phase of parenting as we encourage and empower each of our children in their relationships and pursuits. We’re loving all the sports tournaments and weekend camping trips!

Even though I graduated from Johnson University in 2009 with a degree in Bible and Media Communications, ministry was something I said I would never do... God had other plans!

After serving in different non-profits, in 2011, a youth ministry position at Clear Creek Christian Church brought us to Bloomington, IN. After serving at Clear Creek a little over 5 years, I joined the management team of our local Chick-fil-A. Following two great years on staff at Chick-fil-A, I was offered the College Minister position at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington, IN. I served at Sherwood Oaks for a little over 5 years before transitioning into my new role at CSF.

I’m so thankful for all of these ministry opportunities and how God has used them to grow my individual faith in Christ as well as my heart for His Kingdom. Christian Student Fellowship is an incredible ministry, and I can’t wait to see how God continues to use us to grow His Kingdom. We are praying for the salvation and sanctification of countless college students in Bloomington, through the work of the Holy Spirit, and to the glory of Jesus Christ!

Griffin Peters, CSF President

I began this year with the hope that our student leaders would develop into strong, healthy spiritual leaders for CSF. This overarching goal manifested itself into several goals for the leadership team which I hoped would then reflect on our ministry as a whole.

First, I wanted to encourage our leaders to be vulnerable, and learn how to share their experience and knowledge of God, with others, through their testimony. Every leader was given a “testimony tool” which helped them craft their testimonies and then they all took a turn sharing with the rest of the leadership team during our bi-monthly meetings. For leaders who embraced the opportunity, I believe the result was creating more self-aware leaders who could speak to how God had worked in their lives. Outside of the leadership meetings, seven students volunteered to share in a monthly newsletter, and eight others became small group leaders which provided further opportunities to teach and be vulnerable.

Jayda Hazalette, Junior in Ballet

My name is Jayda and I’m going into my senior year of studying Ballet and Spanish at IU. I’m finishing my college career right where I began–at CSF! The house has provided a home of like-minded, loving people to do life with. I can attest that the house dynamics are different every year with the transient nature of college, but no matter what, CSF is a beautiful Christ-centered community.

In order to provide my introspective take on CSF, I’ve chosen three words to describe the ministry/community that I think truly sum up my experience there over the last year: mentorship, encouragement, & service. CSF has given me opportunities to learn, grow, and serve through small groups, being a house leader, and a member of the worship team.

I wanted to take the time to thank you for your support from the bottom of my heart. Without you, CSF would not exist, offer opportunities, or be able to foster the community that I’ve grown into.

I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

I found the prayer that I wrote over 11 years as I learned about CSF for the first time. It was full of vision and questions about this “type” of ministry on campus. CSF became a place where my passion for the people and the Word was empowered.

Our family’s ministry over the years has been anchored in love. Laura and the girls have hosted countless conversations at dinner tables at the Campus House and our home.. I’m so grateful to the CSF community for loving my family these 11 years.

I did some bad math and wrote somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 sermons! We preached through 18 books of the bible (not including my favorite small group bible study series we called: Minor Prophets, Major Problems). I’m grateful to say I love the Story of God the text reveals today more than I ever have. CSF was the place to deepen that love.

Thank you, CSFamily for your grace and participation in the story of our lives. We will continue to live in Bloomington as we work with missionaries through New International.

Joe Durnil, Associate Campus Minister

My name is Joe Durnil, and I graduated in May from IU with a degree in Media Advertising and lived at the campus house for 3 years during my time as a student. I loved CSF as a student and I am forever grateful for the way that God used it to grow and shape me as a Christian, a friend, and a leader.

Through my years at CSF and many conversations with trusted mentors in my life, God put it on my heart to pursue ministry as a vocation. From that point, it has been a crazy process of trust and a growing confidence that God is in control of my life and knows what he’s doing! Now I’m beginning my first ministry job at CSF and feel beyond blessed to be doing so.

God has blessed me with so many great friends and experiences through CSF, and I am absolutely ecstatic to start giving back to this ministry and the students that God brings through our doors. I am passionate about seeing every student feel welcomed and connected in our house and with our students. I know God has great plans for CSF, and I’m just happy to be along for the ride :)
